As a fellow Paramore/Hayley Williams fan, this is arguably one of my favourite albums of the decade so far, alongside Flowers for Vases and This is Why (the latter of which we got to see Paramore live during this era). Such a brilliant write-up on this album, Eleanor!
Far too kind! In fact, I still think of trying to add those little NPR Tiny Desk lyrical alterations on "Dead Horse", considering that if the album version is inferior to the live version with the added swearing (including that yelp of "b--ch" during "When I said goodbye, I hope you cried"), then Dead Horse becomes more venomous lyrically.
I’m new to Substack and just had this recco’d to me and boy am I glad it was! If you choose to write a similar analysis of her new solo work I’ll be here to read it - I’m particularly interested in your take on her sampling of Jumpin Inside on Ice in My OJ given your call back here. Even if I remove the Paramore fan in me, Hayley’s solo work is so lyrically impactful that it stands on its own along some of the greatest songwriters IMO, so I love these analyses that also detail the instrumentation and production that I’m less attune to.
